Disconnection

Disconnection from society and isolation from your community can be frightening. Once those invisible 'walls' start appearing and you begin to lose connection with a ‘community’ or the people who mean something to you; you can loose motivation to get up each day and dream of something more.

We are living through a period of accelerated change and disruption. While many benefit from change, it has also created insecurity and excluded some. The dissonance between winners and losers splinters the democratic core of the country, chipping away at its self assurance and cohesion. If these external pressures weren’t enough, a growing emphasis on the self, both real and virtual, have placed further strains on individuals, families and communities.

This selection of images from the project illustrates the use of formal modern techniques to help emphasize the insecurities and disconnection in modern British society.
